Saturday, September 13th, 2008

Alonng side cosmetic dentistry, cosmetic treatments are on the rise. Like increasing trends in invisalign and teeth whitening, more than 55 million cosmetic surgery type procedures will be done in 2015. This is forcasted from a reputable source: Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery®, the official medical journal of the American Society of Plastic Surgeons (ASPS).

This will more than quadruple the amount of procedures performed in recent years. Fueling this growth is a number of factors, including direct to consumer ads, as well as advances in treatments. In cosmetic dentistry, expect to see increases in teeth whitening, veneers and other processes.

Teeth Whitening Nation

The most requested cosmetic dentistry procedure is teeth whitening, that should come as no surprise. Some dentists comment that America in particular –with the UK included- are obsessed with teeth whitening. But can your teeth be too white and overly bleached. Many dentists think so.

Many dentists urge caution when seeing someone in a less professional setting for teeth whitening. This may have little effect on the cosmetic implications, but may have less advantageous effects on the health and longevity. For example, teeth bleaching in these settings may negatively impact the likelihood that someone will discover problems in terms of decay. Whitening darkened and decaying teeth will not help the problems to be discovered without x-ray. It is also recommended that kid stay away from teeth whitening. Braces and other growth issues further complicate this at a young age.

As the nation is becoming more and more interested on a whole about teeth bleaching and other forms of whitening, it should come as no surprise that many cosmetic dentists are considering this a true national obsession.
